LIVERPOOL FC legend Dominic Matteo and Manchester United former star Jesper Blomqvist took a moment out of their busy schedule to visit the visually-impaired students at SM Pendidikan Khas Cacat Penglihatan together with Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia’s (Standard Chartered) staff recently.

The visit was part of the bank’s community activity to promote their project ‘Seeing is Believing’ (SIB) aimed at combating preventable blindness.

The football greats spent time playing a game of goal ball with the special children.

Goal ball is a game specially designed for the visually-impaired in which the sighted can also participate with the use of blindfolds.

The children are ardent football fans and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity allowed them to rub shoulders with the international stars and compete against each other in a friendly match.

Standard Chartered has been continually supportive of the school which has been part of its SIB initiative. The event showcased the spirit and potential of these children who have always managed to beat the odds.

The visit was also held in conjunction with the bank’s sponsorship of EPL Masters Football Cup Malaysia 2011 on March 13 at Putra Stadium Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

Four teams competing in the tournament will be Liverpool Masters, Manchester United Masters, EPL All Stars Masters and the Malaysian Masters.
